How to choose the right in-home care plan
Match support to real life—not a one-size brochure.
Most families do not need a “package.” They need clarity: who is coming, what they are licensed to do, and how decisions get made when something changes. In Toronto and the GTA, in-home options usually include registered nursing visits, personal support (PSW) care, or a blend of both.
Start with daily reality
List what actually happens in a week: medications, mobility, bathing, meals, safety when alone, and family respite. That list tells you whether you need clinical skills (nursing) or hands-on daily help (PSW)—or both on a staggered schedule.
Ask how plans are updated
Good providers revisit the plan when hospital discharge, a fall, or a new diagnosis enters the picture. Ask how you will reach a nurse or coordinator after hours for non-emergency questions—and remember: true emergencies belong with 911.
What to do next
If you are comparing agencies, book a consultation and bring your week-in-the-life notes. The right team will translate them into a plain-language plan you can follow and adjust.
